Tune in to Life
~ A blog on the profound impact of music on our lives by Riya Shrivastav.
Whenever you’re doing a monotonous task, don’t you just start humming out some song? Or when you need to get in a serious mood to sit down and get some studying done, maybe a good steady beat of music would help. Maybe you’re just taking an evening stroll on campus and damn, a nice indie song would really vibe well.
But sometimes, we just don’t know the perfect mix of tunes that mixes in with our daily activities. For years, music is said to resonate with the soul. It’s been an expression of one’s inner self and emotions through centuries and many religions.
We play music when we’re sad, when we have something to celebrate, or just to pass the time. We play music when we’re praying and to meditate, as well.
These days, there are so many diverse activities that we take a part of in our everyday life. As a student especially, we have to study, we have to take long tedious walks on campus, and occasionally we take part in events that involve music. Taking the effort to think of some songs for each separate mood or situation is a heavy task. Why not let this blog give some suggestions?
Now if you’re like me and you love evening strolls or rides, I think indie songs are the way to go. Especially Indian indie songs. Nothing resonates with a walk or drive more than Iraaday by Rovalio and Abdul Hannan or Mera Safar by Eclipse Nova. And all these songs can be found in the Indie India playlist already on Spotify.

Why not give the link above a listen as you walk to class tomorrow?
Now, if you want to separate peaceful walks and fun speedy car rides, I think good Punjabi songs or rap songs might just be perfect for you.

Say for example you have a huge exam tomorrow and, oh no, it’s a mandatory electronics subject. What’s gonna get you in a fast and focused mood to just sit down for eight hours straight and get that whole syllabus in your head. I think electronic music might just be it.

Or maybe you just want to pass the time easily while studying and soothing tunes help you get in the right mind state for cracking the boring theory paper tomorrow.

Another option is just straight up thunderstorm sounds on YouTube. Listening to continuous rain and thunder helps distract from noises in our atmosphere and concentrate when you just need to cram all 7 modules before tomorrow’s exam.
Give these links a hear before your next boring or extremely difficult exam.
Now we’re talking about listening to music alone, but what about in a group? Where are those songs that everyone just vibes to no matter which language it is in.
English- https://spotify.link/pcOFa2c8oDb
Indian- https://spotify.link/ygKRIUg8oDb
These party songs will surely involve your entire friends’ group. Even if they’re cringe, you’ll make some funny, sweet memories for sure with your mates.
Last one is a bit more familial and involves all those old songs we listened to when we were young but don’t remember anymore. Sure, those old song may just be ones our grandparents or parents listen to now, but what other way to reconnect with our family than with the songs of our childhood and their childhood. As many would say, there’s no better music than the one from the golden music age of the 1950s to 1970s. So why don’t we sit down in our family home and restore the bonds with our own through some Lata Mangeshkar or Asha Bhonsle.
For me, and probably the millions of people that own any listening application or device, music impacts how we feel, work, and think in our life. It helps deal with and express emotions or make any moment more memorable. Whatever the mood or situation, music can make us view the world more romantically, appreciating each moment’s beauty.
